Correct. Names you don't have permission to share/post should be blacked out.

We don't have to ask whether we can post stuff that comes from Anet employees. Surely if he's the son of the boss of Guild Wars then we don't need his permission. He's practically a public figure speaking on behalf of the company

He's probably the 6 year old that thought of hamstorm.
his name must be shown so in game we can find and congratulate him on a job well done.

I never understood that rule. If I want to see in-game names I just log into the game and the place is full of them!

Well, originally the rule was 'you're not allowed to post the names of people that are portrayed negatively in any way', but people generally dumbed it down to 'don't post names'. It's much the same as people in Campfire who say 'omg omg you can't ask for builds', when it's just the 'can you spoonfeed me things because I can't be bothered to read stickies, look on PvX, or use the search button' threads that we don't like.

Exactly. Screenshots of (for example) a good drop, "something interesting that happened in that mission that one time", the scenery of an outpost - there's no reason to blank names in those. It's the ones identifying alleged scammers/people saying stupid stuff/people having PvP rages - that is when we don't want to see any names.

And yet the SS that y'all are talking about is still there with the person's name not blacked out.

One of the stupider things is often see is players who have FoW armor and chaos gloves who don't even bother dying them. Seemingly to casually show of how much money they have. Like throwing away a half eaten caviar sandwich.

"Yeah i got me this expensive stuff, but only bacause my status demands it, not because i actually care about it."

You're no better, juding people who enjoy buying and wearing virutaly valuable items. It's the same in real, I'm sure if you bought a new car, you'd have some pride in driving it. Sigh...

Oh come on! If you get yourself some super expensive armor, you are at least going to put some 100 gold dye on it.

Yesterday I was doing Glint's Challenge for cores and cloth of brotherhoods and when I was merching stuff at Central Transfer Chamber I saw conversation on the local chat:

"Player X: LFG a CLOCK for heroes normal mode!!!" (he was spamming this desperately)
"Player Y: Why chaos gloves have to be so expensive (("
"Player X: Im going to do this mission where they drop a lot, want to come along?"

Nice try to form a group...

I agree, but not for the 'just dying it'-case. I know some people who actually like the default color on obsidian armor. I don't think those people don't dye them because they are lazy or something. For anybody to keep that nasty color, they gotta like it :P Atleast that's what I'm thinking o,o

I think this is more translator fail than stupidity.. Time-- Clock. Im sure most of us Americans would even be more fail in a Foreign language zone.

I recall trying to use a translator to welcome a french girl to our guild and having it come out, "hello, you are a nice boy"

Oh, yes, they'd be so nice... except they don't exist. +10 Vs. species inscriptions don't exist. They only exist as random non inscribable drops and greens. And the guy is looking for an inscription specifically...

He did say "insc/shield" (where "/" = "or")
